He’s thrilled fans across the world as Avengers adversary Loki – and now Tom
Hiddleston is set to another another infamous villain to his acting
CV.
The British actor revealed at Disney’s D23 convention that he will
voice a younger incarnation of Captain Hook in the studio’s newest Tinkerbell
film The Pirate Fairy.
The film will follow the adventures of a fairy
named Zarina who runs away to sea and befriends a young cabin boy named James –
who later becomes the notorious villain.
Hiddleston will be joined on the
project by Mad Men’s Christina Hendricks – who also appeared at D23 – as the
voice of Zarina.
The actor explained: ‘Cabin boy James is educated and
polite and energetic and charming and attentive and James and Zarina are best
friends – for a while.
‘And actually you realise that it’s all an act
and he’s covering for his ruthless and cunning nature as the captain of the
boat. His real name is Captain Hook. ’
Hiddleston also delighted the
crowds at the event with his impromptu rendition of The Jungle Book song The
Bare Necessities – revealing he can sing as well as act.
The Pirate Fairy
will be released in 2014, although there was no confirmation of whether it would
be released in cinemas or follow in the footsteps of previous Tinkerbell movies
and head straight to DVD.
The actor’s appearance at the convention comes
just weeks after he surprised fans at Comic-Con in San Diego by taking to the
stage dressed as his Avengers alter ego.
He will reprise the role again
in Thor sequel The Dark World, due for release at the end of October, although
the character will not appear in the Avengers sequel Age Of Ultron.
